Kettlebells
Kettlebells the ballistic, dynamic workout for toning the body or building muscle and have been widely adopted by martial artists worldwide.
Kettlebells are cast iron, or filled spheres with a handle on the top.
They are designed to be used in a ballistic fashion; swinging lifting, thrusting or rolling around the body, to develop strength, flexibility
and to give a cardiovascular workout.
Kettlebells are available in a large number of different weights 4kg, 6kg, 8kg, 10kg, 12kg, 16kg, 20kg, 24kg and 32kg being typically seen. By varying the weight you can choose to gently exercise, tone or build muscle mass. Exercises can be as simple as a lift or swing movement or involve a series of moves working a large number of muscle groups and the core in one go – something that traditional weights/dumbbells do
not provide.
The N.C.C.M.A has been utilising the benefits of Kettlebells within its martial arts classes for some time. Students readily adapt to using Kettlebells as the exercises are easy to follow and work the body as a martial artist expects.
Kettlebells differs from traditional weight training, in that the they are moved in a non linear fashion, often working several muscle groups at the same time. The benefits to the core especially, are of particular significance to the martial artist, but balance, speed and power can also be developed using Kettlebells.
Building on the success of the introduction of Kettlebell training into our martial arts classes, we have developed a class especially for those students looking to spend a little more time each week working Kettlebells. These classes will suit not only martial artists, but anyone looking to try Kettlebells for the first time. The exercises are simple to follow and learn, so with a small amount of training, can be reproduced in relative safely.
Our classes suit anyone over 14 years of age and either sex. We have kettlebells ranging from 4kg to 32kg.
