Learn a traditional Chinese Martial Art at the NCCMA in Harrogate. Lau Gar Kung Fu for beginners to advanced from one of Harrogate longest established Martial Arts Academy’s
The N.C.C.M.A has been teaching students Lau Gar Kung Fu in Harrogate for nearly 20 years. We have a passion for Kung Fu and a passion to teach others too. The NCCMA currently has 6 Lau Gar black sash/belt grade teachers, each having trained for many years to reach their grade and expertise. Having so many high grade teachers available in the kung fu classes means that students benefit from their abundance of knowledge.
The Lau Gar Kung Fu taught at the Centre is able to trace its heritage back to the Shaolin Temples of China. For any Martial Art to have such a prestigious Lineage can only go to prove its ability to be effective; which has also been proven in competition, many times. There are so many 'new, street or mixed styles' available, that profess to teach you a more devastating style, but do you think any of them will be around in the many, many years to come - we doubt it, these classes are often taught by teachers who have only done a small amount of time in several styles, then mixed them together, to cover their lack of deep knowledge.
Lau Gar is a 'Short', 'Hard' style of Kung fu and is based on 5 animals. This means that it is great for very close combat situations; either in competition or street based conflicts. The style teaches locks, block, and kicks all with open hand (without weapons), that have characteristics of the five animals of the style (Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Dragon and Snake). As a student progresses weapons are introduced at an extension of the person’s body.
Although classes follow the syllabus set out by the BKFA (British Kung Fu Association) for Lau Gar, classes often mixes other complementary aspects of Chinese Martial teachings to help develop a more rounded student and develop a better physical and internally prepared student. Although classified as a ‘Hard’ style of Martial Art, the nature of this style is to deflect or dissolve an attack, therefore minimisingany hard Physical impact associated with other martial arts.
